Center for Developmental Adoption Medicine presents at PSBI
Davida Harlem, Ph.D., a developmental psychologist, in addition to Arlene Verno, physical therapist, Gwen Bihn, pediatric nurse and a speech therapist, all from the Center for Developmental Adoption Medicine, presented an overview of child development and intervention strategies for responding to development issues in adoptive children at PSBI in November.
The emphasis of the presentation was to empower parents with information and strategies, and a sense of direction so that they can feel confident in their understanding of the intervention strategies for adopted children. Topics covered were: the impact of early development on later milestones, identification of both medical and environmental risk factors, and intervention for cognitive, motor and language development as well as social/emotional/attachment and adjustment issues.
